Well it’s been a busy couple of months for me. I’ve been working on the Aaron Ivey’s record and I’m pretty excited that it’s almost finished. We’ve gotten a few of the mixes back and they’re sounding amazing. I feel like it’s some of our best work yet. It’s called “Between the Beauty and Chaos” It’s a combination of worship and social justice songs. In my opinion those two things go hand in hand. I also just started playing with another artist named Matt McCloskey. I’ll be doing more stuff with him this fall after camp season. It’s old school bare bones rock’n'roll. Check out listentomatt.com . You can download his record for free there, or show a little donation love. He’s a great guy and if you live in Austin you should go catch one of his shows.

So between learning Matt’s tunes and relearning Aaron’s i should be pretty busy:) It’s funny that after you write parts for a record you can’t remember half of what you did. Anyhow that’s what I’ve been up to if anyone was wondering.

Hey everyone, my cd’s finished and ready to go. I haven’t quite figured out how to sell them online since shipping is so hi. It’d be $7 bucks for a 4 song ep and that seems a bit steep to me. I’ll do some more looking into it and keep you posted. I’ll try to be better about keeping up with this thing too:)

Aaron was telling me about a woman named Fanny Crosby who wrote many famous hymns. I can’t recall the exact number but it’s pretty impressive. She was poor her whole life and even died poor. She was made blind by a doctor when she was very young. Who knows? Maybe the course of her life would’ve completely changed had she not been blind, but she still managed to forgive the doctor who made her blind.

It’s pretty amazing to me that she wrote as many hymns as she did with the hand dealt to her. Her walk with Christ was all the inspiration she needed to write music. I’m sure she wasn’t wondering about the hook factor or royalties she’d make off of the church using her songs. Obviously they didn’t have all that set up back then. It’s just great to think about somebody making art because it’s in them to do. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem making some money off of my music or playing with artists, it’s how I eat. I was just inspired to write music that I love and if it’s not for everyone then that’s fine, but it’s good for my soul to express what God’s placed inside of me.

So weather you paint, sing, write poetry or do wood work, do it for the glory of God, not the fame of man. The creator has placed gifts inside us all and they shouldn’t set on the shelf just because we can’t make a ton of money from it.

I just finished tracking this morning and I’m heading home to my beautiful wife!! I’m pretty pleased with how everything turned out. Anyone have any ideas on where I could put this online other than myspace? No offense to anyone but I’m not the hugest myspace fan. I can’t wait to let everyone hear this!!

The recording’s going well this week. We have all the main guitar parts tracked and are doing vocals tomorrow. I’m having a blast being creative, keeping crappy hours and eating unhealthy food. That’s what being a musician’s all about:)

Well I’m getting pretty excited about recording next week. I’m recording an EP and hope to do a full length project sometime next fall. I’ve got to hide behind Aaron’s amazing voice and do the guitar thing for the past five and a half years, and also co write with him on spur stuff. I’ve been writing a lot of songs that I haven’t known what to do with, so I figured it’s time to just throw them out there.

Merry Christmas

Before I start, this isn’t a post about how awesome I am because I helped at the food bank today:) The truth be known, I didn’t have anything to do and they needed a big dumb guy to help move boxes, so that’s what I did. Laura and I went to the food bank to help pass out thanksgiving dinners. Each family got a turkey, pie and a box of canned goods. It was quite a joy to say hello and greet those people with a smile. We’d put the stuff in there cars and wish them a happy thanksgiving.

I caught myself saying “take it easy” or “have a nice day” and then got to thinking about what I was saying. I meant well by what I was saying but I’m sure a lot of those folks aren’t just taking it easy. There was a particular lady crying because her husband just got laid off and another women who told us she was just let go from her job. The second women tried make a joke of it saying “couldn’t they have waited till next week to lay me off”. I started trying to put myself in their shoes. What if I couldn’t provide for Laura and myself and had to go to the food bank or get food stamps. That would be so humbling and hard for me to do. Honestly though, if either one us lost our jobs it wouldn’t take long before we’d be there.

So you know for sure people in that situation can’t afford good health care or even child care for their kids during the day. I can barely afford insurance myself and I’m normal middle class america. It just makes me have a new respect for folks that work in the service industry for a low wage. They bust their butts for not much and I bet the stupid petty crap we worry about never crosses their mind. Like wireless internet, cell phones, cable tv or if they get to go out to eat. I sometimes wonder if progress and technology haven’t been to our demise.

I can’t wait to meet the Lord one day and find out how He intended this to be from the beginning. What a great day it will be.

This weekend my friend Evan Weatherford came to town. Evan is super vibey guitar player and I always love ripping his ideas off. Kind of got me thinking about how we all need to be around people that inspire us in different ways. I think it pushes us to be better, at least it does for me. I certainly don’t like being the guy who’s getting his butt kicked all the time:) Anyhow, Evan thanks for the hang and introducing us to some new Austin friends.
